LOVE MY "New" TV Console!

I Got this dresser for $10 at a thrift store.

It was originally marked at $15. When I found it, it was vertical with all the drawers in the wrong spots making them look broken. A nice worker helped me move it horizontal(I had my infant in her carrier at the time) and with some work I was able to get all the drawers in the right order. After I finished looking it over and fixing the drawers the nice employee came back over and I pointed out all the places it would need to be fixed and asked if I could get it for any lower. He said today only he would do $10 for it. I think it helped I had a baby strapped to me :) He wrote up my slip and put a sold sign on it.  I then had to pay, go home, take car seats out, take the kids to my mom's since my husband had to leave for work and go back and pick it up before they closed at 5pm. When I got it home I was lucky enough to have a neighbor help me unload it from the van.

Now this dresser sat in my garage for a few months while I contemplated how I wanted it to look. Plus I had a newborn and 2 other little ones to look after. Finally I had the time and started working.

Remove drawers.

Take off side that was too broken to fix.

Replace it with one I had cut at the hardware store. Used small nails to keep it in place.

Replace bottom long piece too. Nail and glued in place. Whatever heavy things on top that I could find to keep it in place.

Next step was to clean it as best as I could. I use Norwex cloths for cleaning my pieces. The drawers were especially tedious to clean since they are so detailed. I started with Norwex clothes but found that spraying them with a vinegar/water mixture then using paper towels was the better method.

See all so crevices I had to clean!

To clean the hardware I used a mixture of salt and lemon juice. Use approximately 1/4 cup of salt for 1/2 lemon squeezed(about 1 Tbsp.) to make a paste. I rubbed the paste on with a dishcloth and steel wool.

See the difference!!

Now for the painting. I made my own Homemade Chalk Paint. Paint on the first layer and let it dry completely. Then do a second coat.

Once dry add a coat of clear furniture wax to protect the paint. Follow the instructions on the package. Let it air dry outside/in the garage because the wax really smells.
Then screw the hardware back in and put the drawers in the right spots. I numbered mine before I took them out. LT(left top), LM(left middle), LB(left bottom) etc so I would know how they went back in.

Ninja Turtle Green Nightstand

I got this nightstand for $1 at a garage sale for my son's room.
STEPS: Pick out your spray paint. My son picked this Ninja Turtle green color. This is my first time using Valspar. I usually use Rustoleum.
 Unscrew hardware from drawer.
Spray on first coat of paint. When spraying make sure you start and stop off the pieced to avoid drips and splotches. Make sure you let it dry COMPLETELY before applying the second coat. If you don't your piece will feel sticky when you are finished. Not cool.
Second coat and let it dry completely. Screw hardware back on.
